Shar Pei puppies are a lot like
caring for newborns. Aside from food and baths, they need four major things to
thrive; love, attention, care and patience. If you give a Shar Pei puppy these
basic things, they will grow up to be a happy, loving, dedicated and loyal dog
for you and your family to enjoy. A new Shar Pei pup can be a major change in
a household, so there are a few things you can do to prepare for the arrival of
your new addition.
Prepare a Special Spot
It is a good idea to
prepare a special spot for your Shar Pei pup in your house so he or she has a
place to feel safe. Prepare your family so that all members are aware of the changing
circumstances that are going to be taking place, and nothing comes as a shock.
It is also a good idea to designate responsibilities so that your Shar
Pei puppy learns who does what, as consistency is crucial, especially for puppies.
Once you have collected all of the supplies your new Shar Pei pup will need, you’re
ready to bring him home and give him love, attention, care and patience.
Love
The
most important thing you can give to your new puppy is love. Dogs have an uncanny
way of knowing how you feel about them, and that seems to be an emotion they are
familiar with and are able to sense easily. If you give your dog love, they will
return it to you ten fold.
Dogs absolutely need love to thrive. If you
find out that the situation with your new Shar Pei puppy isn’t working out for
one reason or another, give them to someone who is better suited. There is no
shame in giving your puppy to a home where they will be loved and cared for, as
it is the most humane thing to do.
Attention
Secondly, your puppy
needs attention. Sometimes it may seem as though your puppy needs constant attention
and you can’t get anything done without them nipping at your heels, but the only
way to get them to stop is by paying them attention. If you find that your puppy
is misbehaving and vying for your attention, you can give them a toy to chew on
by your side so that they still feel secure, but you are able to get done what
you need.
Care
Your puppy also needs your care in general. Puppies
cannot fend for themselves, and thus they need you to care for them. They need
you to feed them, bathe them, teach them how to behave, and teach them how to
get along when you’re not able to attend to them. While puppies have natural canine
instincts, they learn from you about many things, so you need to spend time with
them, especially in their developmental days.
Patience
Patience
is a virtue, and new puppies require a lot of patience. Sometimes, puppies can
be trying on one’s patience, but remember that they won’t be a puppy for long.
As puppies grow into dogs, they become calmer and better behaved, and don’t require
as much patience.
Try to stay consistent with your puppy and keep your
voice calm but firm, and they will learn the rules very quickly. Now that you
are aware of what it takes to care for a puppy, you will need to learn a little
more in depth about preparing
for your Shar Pei puppy so you can make his homecoming pleasant and memorable.
