Shar Pei potty training is
a frustrating and sometimes difficult to overcome, test of you patience. No matter
what kind of puppy you get or how well behaved they are, they will need to be
potty trained. Unless you get an older puppy, Shar Pei housebreaking is your responsibility.
Shar Pei potty training doesnt have to be a frustrating experience if you know
what to expect and how to handle the situation. And believe it or not, being patient
and waiting for the puppy to learn will actually speed up the process considerably.
Your Puppy Wants to Please You
The first thing to consider when
working through Shar Pei potty training is that your puppy isnt trying to misbehave,
he simply doesnt understand where to go and how to tell you he needs out. Shar
Pei training will start slowly and require a considerable amount of effort on
your part. It takes consistency, discipline, dedication and determination to housebreak
a puppy. There is no single right or wrong way to housebreak a puppy, but there
are some tried and true tips and pointers that will help you through the process.
Keep
it Simple
One of the most important things with Shar Pei housebreaking
is making sure the puppy doesnt get a chance to urinate on your floor. If you
let him out every hour consistently, he shouldnt have reason to go on your floor.
Over time he will learn to hold his bladder longer until eventually he is housebroken.
It is important that you remain consistent with your commands and demands,
as with any other Shar Pei training. Use the same simple command such as go potty
every time you want him to go outside. Keep the potty training sessions short,
as he will become bored and stop learning. Praise or reward him every time he
gets it right during the training period.
Take a Break if You Need it
In
the event that he does make a mess on your floor, firmly tell him no, and take
him straight outside. Never shout at or strike your puppy, as it is nothing more
than a release of your frustration, causing fear and trust issues in your puppy.
Consistency and patience will get you both through this trying time. Whether you
purchase your puppy from a pet store or from a Shar
Pei rescue or adoption center, you will need to potty train your puppy. So
to save frustration, it would behoove you to prepare for it ahead of time.
