Shar Pei Puppy is Hit by a Truck, Rescue Adopts Tripod
http://www.walking-on-sunshine-animal-rescue.org
Walking on Sunshine is strictly a livestock and horse rescue, that specializes in rescuing miniature horses, however, their love for the Sharpei breed was obvious when they came to the rescue of a five-month-old female Shar Pei named Oskana.
On August 8, 2008, little Oskana was hit by a truck. Her owners could not afford the veterinary bills, especially considering that it wasn't just her leg that was an issue.
Oskana herniated in several areas, which complicated matters even worse.
The original veterinary bill was $600, and then another $700 to repair the areas that had been herniated.
Three weeks later, however, Oskana showed signs of infection, which had to be treated. This treatment cost yet another $260.
This Sharpei puppy is doing much better, however, the stump that is remaining is preventing her from retraining herself to use only her three existing legs. She tends to try to put weight on the stump, which could cause even more complications, if she continues.
Therefore, Oskana is facing another surgery to remove the entire leg. The cost for this surgery has been estimated at $2,200 - $3,000.
Owner and Founder of Walking On Sunshine is committed to finding sponsors and increasing donations to help offset the cost of all of these surgeries.
This little girl is just too precious to give up on.
