I have a ten year old Shar Pei that has begun to smell.?

o smell. And bad. It's come to the point where the land lord is telling me I have to get rid of him. I love him, he's been in my life since he was a pup, but I have tried everything the Vet has told me, and even some stuff that a Shar Pei breeder has told me to use and it still doesn't work. It's a yeasty smell, coming from his head mostly. He's got one loppy ear, but that is clean almost everyday. I really need some help, because I Really don't want to have to put him down. Can someone help

Shar Pei's have skin problems and require a lot of upkeep with their folds. He probably has yeast infection in his folds. They need to be cleaned out often and on a regular basis.

If you are unsatisfied with what your vet is or is not doing, find another vet and get a second opinion.

ADD:
Yeast is a fungus - you need a fungicide. Talk to your vet.

Is it IN the ear or in the skin folds? Shar Pei's have skin problems, and need to be watched for that.

If it's the ear, have the vet check for an inner ear infection–if the vet says it's not infected, then take a wadded kleenex, dip it in 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar solution and swipe the entire inside of the ear with it. This changes the environment enough to stop a lot of yeast issues in there. I'd do that twice a week, regularly, to keep the ear smell under control.

It wouldn't hurt to have a different vet clinic take a look at the dog, either.

Most people wouldn't think of this..but go to a drug store and get some monastat cream.(or any cream designed for yeast infections) My grandmother raises Newfoundlands..it's what take's care of any yeast problems the dogs have ( usually coming from their ears)
